New Cancer Center
Comprehensive cancer services will soon be offered in the new John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center currently under construction on the Manchester campus. The center is on schedule to open in July of 2010.
This new facility devoted specifically to cancer care is being built in response to the increased overall demand for cancer services and to respond to the needs of the community. The center will be welcoming and designed with the comfort of patients and their families first and foremost. There will be exam and procedure rooms to handle nursing home, bed-bound, wheelchair-bound, and ambulatory patients. There will be discrete access for ambulances, and adequate office and treatment spaces for the numerous components of the multidisciplinary care team (medical, psychosocial, nutrition, finance, social work, patient education, and support services).
The healthcare team at the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center is committed to meeting the physical and emotional needs and expectations of our patients and their families by offering comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, psychological support, supportive care, and long-term, follow-up care through a multi-disciplinary approach for both inpatients and outpatients.
ECHN will provide patient navigator services, dietary, social work, financial counseling and support groups to our cancer patients. Integrative medicine and a patient resource center will be available to allow patients to learn about complementary treatment approaches and to research their disease. This will allow patients to better participate in their care and to assist in the decision-making process.
Funding opportunities:
Cancer Center Operating Fund
The Operating Fund will offset costs associated with cancer programs, services, equipment, renovations and maintenance associated with providing the best in quality cancer care for the community. These funds will serve the greatest needs of the patients of the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center.
DeQuattro Cancer Fund
In memory of the late John A. DeQuattro, DeQuattro Cancer Fund will support the needs of the community of cancer patients by providing personal comfort and neighborly care through financial assistance, family support, education, and counseling to ensure continued quality cancer care close to home. Funds will help offset the costs associated with nurse navigators, nutritionists and other support services that will provide a compassionate and skilled environment serving the specialized needs of cancer patients.
Meg Berte Owen Cancer Survivorship Fund
The Meg Berte Owen Cancer Survivorship Fund will be used to support a survivorship program with activities that reduce the late effects of cancer treatment, and improve and encourage surveillance for recurring cancers and second malignancies. The survivorship program will focus on addressing the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. Major areas of interest will include the assessment and management of anxiety, depression, fatigue, chronic pain, employment, disability, insurability, sexuality, nutrition and fertility. Genetic assessment of patients and their families with a potential for inherited cancer syndromes will be encouraged. The fund will also assist in supporting community outreach activities directed at the needs of our cancer survivors.
Cancer Resource Education Fund
The Cancer Resource Education Fund will offer educational booklets and videos for use at the Cancer Center and also allow for the coordination and promotion of upcoming educational seminars and workshops. The fund will enhance educational opportunities and expansion of services to our cancer patients and families.
Complementary and Integrative Medicine Fund
As part of our focus to care for the total person living with cancer, the Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) Fund supports the delivery of therapies practiced together or in addition to conventional (allopathic) medicine. Integrative Medicine may be used to manage symptoms, increase quality of life or to improve the effectivemenss of conventional medicine. CIM generally focuses on facilitating the body's innate healing response. CIM concentrates on the whole person and is evidence-based. These therapies may include elements of mind-body medicine such as hypnosis and cognitive behavioral medicine, body-based therapies such as acupuncture and massage, and energy-based practices such as Reiki and therapeutic touch. Art, music and herbal therapies are also considered part of CIM.
