Cancer Center Gala

June 12, 2010

In July 2010, ECHN will open an expanded John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center on the campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital. This new facility, devoted specifically to cancer care, is being built in response to the needs of the community and the increased demand for overall cancer services. The larger center will provide an enhanced design that is welcoming and comfortable, designed specifically for cancer patients and their families.

A celebration was held for the opening of the Cancer Center with a black tie fundraising gala on June 12, 2010. The evening consisted of a cocktail reception with self-guided tours of the new facility, a brief speaking program featuring the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ECHN, Jeffrey Heidtman, Deputy Mayor of Manchester, Leo Diana, President and CEO of ECHN, Peter Karl, Vice President of LiveSTRONG Foundation, Mona Patel, and Director of Development of the ECHN Community Healthcare Foundation, Nina Kruse. A video presentation announcing and describing the Eastern Connecticut Cancer Institute, housed at the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center, included a testimony of a cancer survivor, Martha Adams. Three of Martha's daughters shared their experience and care through their mother's illness and recovery and expressed their gratitude. The speaking portion of the program was followed by an elegant dinner and vibrant dancing.

This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors. Presenting Sponsor: Community CancerCare, Gold Sponsor: Medical Oncology & Blood Disorders, LLP, Silver Sponsors: Aetna Foundation, Ambulance Service of Manchester, CASLE Corporation, Eastern Connecticut Pathology Consultants, PC and Mrs. Valerie F. DeQuattro.

Very special thanks to ShopRite of Manchester for the generous donation of stunning floral arrangements for the tables, and to Chris and Carolyn Didden for their generous donation of 2Fly wines.
